Blessed Saint Lauren (Patron of Survivors)

Patron Saint: Survivors

Also Known as: St. Laura Vicuna

Born: April, 1891 in Chile

Died: January, 1904 in Argentina

Beautified: 1988 by Pope John Paul II

Canonized: Pending

Additional Patronages: Loss of Parents and Abuse Victims

Why she is venerated by the Holy Roman Catholic Church:

Remarkably devout at a young age

Laura's Father died in war and Laura's Mother shortly became the mistress of a wealthy man. The wealthy man abused her Mother, and Laura had written that she would give her life for her Mother to leave the wealthy man, and give her life to the Church. One night, the wealthy man tried to take the Virginity of Laura, and Laura fled the house and went to the Salesian Monastery to fulfill her lifelong dream to Serve God. When she returned to try and convince her Mother to come with her, she was raped, beaten and killed by the wealthy man. When Laura's Mother found out that Laura would have given her life for her Mother to leave the wealthy man and give her life to God, Laura's Mother did just that.
